Health
Health
Health is a critical issue in the understanding of the quality of life. This chapter examines perceptions and understandings relating to health in the context of the quality of life. In many respects, health is related to the patterns of everyday living, and to the systems of waste disposal. Where water supply and waste disposal are deficient, the sanitary discipline necessary to minimize the risks of exposure places enormous daily burdens on household members. Although diagnostic interpretation of symptoms given in a questionnaire is uncertain, this chapter presents some data based on self-reporting. These data represent an element in the cultural construction of health rather than an epidemiological analysis. This chapter includes the results from the 1995 survey with those from the 1997 survey and the focus groups.
