The Pyramids of El-Geeʼzeh.1

The Pyramids of El-Geeʼzeh.1

(p.159) Chapter XV. The Pyramids of El-Geeʼzeh.1
Description of Egypt

Jason Thompson

American University in Cairo Press

This chapter describes the author's journey to the pyramids. It discusses the author's abode in an ancient sepulchral grotto near the pyramids. It also describes the Great Pyramid and three small pyramids in its vicinity. To the left of the Great Pyramid the Second and Third can be seen; and at the left extremity of the view a part of the head of the Great Sphinx can be seen. At the other extremity of the view an old, ruined causeway can be spotted, doubtless a part of that which was built by Ckar'a'ckoo'sh, for the convenience of transporting stones from the pyramids to El-Cka'hireh. There are various tombs in the vicinity of the Great Pyramid. In the rock on the west side of the Great Pyramid are several sepulchral grottoes; most of them small and insignificant. There are numerous grottoes and catacombs in the vicinity of the pyramids, which require to be noticed.
