Two kinds of risk factors affect the Theban monuments. Elements of the natural environment that cause damage include geology, topography, climate, flooding, and local flora and fauna. Manmade risk factors include careless digging, theft, looting, vandalism, failed conservation attempts, and excessive tourism.
