The Monastery of St. Hatre (Dayr Anba Hadra) represents one of the tragic situations of Coptic heritage. Although it became well known to scholars and researchers, it does not receive either attention or appropriate protection. Comparison between the old photos, published in 1927, and the actual situation at the present time, gives quite a clear progression of the deterioration of the buildings in general and the wall paintings in particular.
