The Development of the Church at Dayr Anba Hadra

A Study of the Plasterwork and Dated Inscriptions

(p.105) 11 The Development of the Church at Dayr Anba Hadra
Christianity and Monasticism in Aswan and Nubia

Renate Dekker

American University in Cairo Press

This chapter examines the development of the church on the basis of internal sources, namely the architecture, the plasterwork, the wall paintings, and dated inscriptions. The author summarizes Monneret de Villard's conclusions on the building history, describes the plasterwork in the church based on the photographs taken between 2005 and 2011, and then establishes terminus ante quem dates for each layer.
