Christianity and Monasticism in Aswan and Nubia

Anke Ilona Blöbaum

American University in Cairo Press

In the year 1941, a number of Coptic and Greek ostraca were found near the ruins surrounding the nineteenth-century Hagr Edfu church. Unfortunately they were never published and their whereabouts remains unknown. The material in this chapter is based on photographic documentation undertaken in the year 1981 during the excavation. The corpus consists of approximately 180 ostraca.
