Actual monastic site documentation appears to have been sadly lacking. There are a considerable number of Coptic monasteries distributed throughout mainly desert areas in Egypt, some in ruined condition, and indeed a large number possibly never documented at all. The accuracy of all information must be checked prior to entry. Pooling resources, such as bibliographies, excavation reports, and media input, would create an interactive archive with instant access. In turn, this central pool would be extremely useful in the cataloguing of archaeological and architectural elements, for example in museum and conservation work. When Internet connection is unavailable, such as on excavation locations in the desert, sections of the database may be copied onto storage devices for instant access via laptop in the field.
