Immediate and urgent attention to the issue of global and national need for educational reform lead to the World Summit for Children, which was held in 2002. This issue included the different global perspectives concerning social movements and education that could lead to a new social movement. In Egypt, as there were issues and debates on the real definition of quality education, the community-school initiative was conducted to address the country's need for educational reform. Also discussed in this chapter are the different approaches towards the educational and social movements, and educational reform and other issues which were directly relevant to global concerns such as poverty, growing income disparities, and the deteriorating conditions of the world today.
